Although Chantix lawsuits are still coming in from across
the country, thousands of lawsuits that have already been combined in Chantix
multidistrict litigation are preparing for trials in the coming years. These
cases, largely dealing with Chantix-related psychological problems like
anxiety, depression, and Chantix suicide have been consolidated in a process that will
speed litigation and help plaintiffs reach a settlement more quickly, as pretrial
processes in similar cases are combined.
Chantix
psychological problems are a highly-publicized phenomenon which seems to
develop mostly in patients with a personal or family history of psychological
disorders or behavioral and emotional problems. These same people were
deliberately left out of Chantix clinical trials by drugmaker Pfizer, despite
the fact that statistically, people with psychological problems are much more
likely to be smokers than people without these conditions. Suicidal thoughts and
suicide attempts are not uncommon Chantix side effects, and some
Chantix
patients have actually committed suicide, leading their families to file a
wrongful death lawsuit against the drugmaker giant responsible for the
manufacture and distribution of the smoking cessation drug.
Chantix
proved initially very successful on the pharmaceuticals market, with an
expedited approval by the FDA due to early success in clinical trials. It
wasn’t until after Chantix was on the market that the side effects associated
with it started to become apparent.
Now many
former Chantix patients are taking legal action, trying to win money that could
compensate for costs related to the side effects they have suffered. Litigation
has progressed to a point where bellwether trials are to be chosen. These
trials will be the first to be dealt with in court, and will deal with Chantix
psychological problems like suicide and suicide attempts. The plaintiffs in
these trials have not yet been chosen, but they will likely include families
who have filed wrongful death lawsuits against Pfizer after a loved one
committed suicide as a result of taking Chantix.
It is not
too late to file a Chantix lawsuit for patients who have experienced any of the
side effects of Chantix, including psychological issues, heart disease, Stevens
Johnson syndrome, and diabetes. Many people are still eligible to file suit if
they contact a Chantix lawyer as soon as possible.
